Soft textures are in with furniture, but they come with care instructions. Here’s how you can keep them looking fresh without ruining the feel.

1. Boucle’: Handle this one with a gentle touch

Because this fabric is all bout texture. That nubby weaves adds visual interest but it can also trap dust easily.

To clean Boucle’:

Use a soft-bristle brush or vacuum with a brush attachment weekly

Spot clean with a clean, damp cloth — avoid rubbing

For stains, try a pH-neutral upholstery cleaner and always test in an unseen spot

Avoid harsh scrubbing, bleaches, or anything that can break the loops.

2. Velvet: Keep it plush and polished

Velvet furniture adds instant luxury, but it’s not as high maintenance as you might think.

To clean Velvet:

Brush with a fabric brush to restore nap (that soft directional texture)

Dab stains gently with a damp cloth — never soak

Let it dry naturally, then brush again to lift the fibers

Pro tip: For stubborn marks, try steam (either a handheld steamer or the steam setting on an iron — held above, not pressed down).

3. Woven and Natural Blends: Know What You’re Working with

Cotton-linen blends, chunky weaves, and soft wool-mix fabrics are beautiful but each reacts differently to moisture.

To clean Blend:

Vacuum regularly to prevent build-up in the weave

Blot spills immediately — water alone might spread the stain

Use dry upholstery foam or fabric-specific sprays where appropriate

Check the care tag — always. A fabric that looks washable might not be.
