We understand that frustration of buying the perfect lounge for your home, getting it to your house, unpacking it… And then realizing that it doesn’t fit in the space like you imagined. Or maybe it doesn’t even fit through the door!
Your living room is now a real life game of Tetris.
At WFC Outlet, we want you to leave with a winning bargain, not a “what was I thinking?”.
So here’s your no fuss guide to making sure your new furniture fits before you lug it home.
Measure your space, not just your vibe.
Before you fall in love with that modular lounge with the ottoman, grab a tape measure and get your room’s dimensions.
Write down:
- Width, length, and height of the room
- Any doorways, windows, or obstacles such as built-ins or skirting boards)
- Clearance space you want to leave around the furniture (trust us, you don’t want to be yelling “PIVOT!” every second, or shimmying sideways to get to the fridge).
Hot tip: Use masking tape on the floor to map out the item’s footprint. It’s a game-changer.
Check all entry points
It’s surprising how many sofas can get caught halfway up the stairs.
Things to measure:
- Front door width (open and closed)
- Hallway widths and ceiling heights
- Staircase clearance or lifts (especially apartments)
- Any sharp corners that could be deal (or bond) breakers.
If in doubt, it’s a good idea to go modular. Some couches and beds can come apart and your spine will thank you later
Read the packaging dimensions too
It is helpful when the furniture and packaging dimensions are listed. Because a flat-packed bed base might be able to fit in the car, but a full assembled on definitely won’t.
Make sure:
- The packaged item can fit in your car (or a mate’s ute)
- You have enough hands to help. We would advise against a solo haul unless you’re very confident and/or jacked.
Don’t just focus on fit
Think about function as well. Just because it technically fits, doesn't mean it works.
Ask yourself:
- Can you full open the drawers?
- Can you fully recline?
- Will doors open without knocking into anything?
- Are you going to have to crab walk around some things?
Leave at lease 60-90cm of clearance around beds, dining tables, and lounges to keep the space breezy and not boxy.
Bring your notes to our events
Don’t play guessing games. Take a photo of your measurements list or keep it in your phone notes.
You’re welcome to bring your tape measure to the warehouse or borrow one of ours.
In summary:
- Measure Twice
- Know your space
- Measure your entryways
- Check packaging size
- Think beyond the footprint
- DO NOT WING IT
